on 1922 postcard from Przemysl to Antwerp

Does anyone know what the postmark(?) is on this postcard

it's a figure 5, in black, in a 13mm diameter circle

and this is the reverse side of the postcard

Nick Martin of the Belgian Study Circle, UK, emailed  me on 20 Feb 2002 as follows

This is probably the mark of the postman responsible for distributing mail.  These consisted of letters in a circle, hexagon or sometimes just the number on its own.  Usually in black; somertimes found in blue.

We have little information about these, but they are not to be confused with early 19th century letters in a circle, hexagon or parallelograme which were used by postmen emptying rural letter boxes.

please email me at

if you can help
